Unity
A requirement that a patent application should only relate to a single invention.
This requirement is met (in the UK) if each of the claims relates to the same inventive concept.
Where the patent office considers this requirement is not met, it will be necessary to amend the claims by deleting claims such that the remaining claims do meet the requirement. However, it is still possible to pursue protection for the claims that have been deleted through the filing of a divisional patent application.
