Provisional Patent

Provisional Patent

An informal term commonly used to refer to a Provisional Application. It is somewhat misleading as a Provisional Application will not be examined or granted, so no patent will arise directly from a Provisional Application. Accordingly, the mere filing of a Provisional Application does not give rise to any enforceable rights.
