Novelty
A core requirement of patentability that must be satisfied in order for a patent to be granted. In order to satisfy this requirement, the invention claimed in a patent application must be new over anything that was publicly known prior to the date on which the patent application was filed (the "prior art"). Provided that the claimed invention is different from the prior art in some way, this requirement will be met.
