Inventive Step
Inventive Step
A core requirement of patentability that must be satisfied in order for a patent to be granted. In order to satisfy this requirement, the invention claimed in a patent application must not be obvious from that which was publicly known prior to the date on which the patent application was filed (the "prior art"). The way in which this requirement is assessed varies between different Patent Offices.
